Just want to rant. Failed an interview because I brought up ranger school being the reason I left the military. Cont. Below.

It’s much more that you could not adapt to the situation and so you are viewed as a liability.

Yes, standing up for what you believe in is important, but the way you went about your fight against hypocrisy basically affected your performance and changed nothing.

You allowed a situation you were uncomfortable with, given the politics of it, or the hypocrisy of it, affect your ability to succeed.

It shows a level of professional immaturity that others were able to get over and one that you were not able to due to attitude.

Employers want to see you succeed given any circumstance and then debrief / complain about / fix it later.

M1 DMd you again with my personal info

As a vet right out of the military you need to convey your ability to get shit done, your ability to adapt and overcome, and your ability to lead through adversity. That combined with a great attitude will get you hired.

If you had told me a story about how you quit after failing once and then blamed it the fact that it was because somebody else was getting special treatment that would be the end of the interview because I would know all I need to know.

Prepare for questions with responses that make someone want to hire you. An interview isn’t the place to make a point or lay blame for failure on someone other than yourself. The failure question should be an opportunity to show how you learned from a mistake and overcame it, not how it’s somebody else’s fault.

Pissed that I'm penalized for my honesty. I told them that I dropped out of Florida phase after being recycled because I saw rampant cheating of pushing females through. Completely bastardized any standard the school had. Lost all my motivation to finish through with it. What has this world gone to that its so sensitive and can't face non politically correct stuff.

likefunny

Yeah, I’m a former combat arms unit commander who’s not totally on board with “relaxed” standards (for ANY reason) but I wouldn’t have brought that topic up, even if asked. Chalk it up to “experience” and drive on!

like

Why would you bring it up in an interview?
And how do you know that exactly this failed you? Did the employer give you a feedback?
As others said I do not think that fact you you did not finish ranger school failed you, but more likely the representation of this fact and what is behind it.
Anyway, just let it go and move on. Learn from your mistakes!

like

Agree

I could also be how you presented your answer. Obviously this is speculation so I apologize if I’m wrong, but given the general civilian lack of understanding regarding most of not all military requirements it is easy for someone to misinterpret what you said/meant and interpret your answer as unwilling to work with women, having an issue with leadership or something else. Honesty is important but interviews depend on predicting how someone else is going to react to your answer and tailoring what you say to get the reaction you are trying for

Wait really. What employer? As someone that has friends that are RIs at RTB, that shit definitely happened

Dude, learn to play the game a little. It’s an interview for a job, not a bitch session with a friend. Save that story for a buddy over a beer. You are trying to impress them so that you can get the job. Alter your story at least a little bit. You wouldn’t tell an employer that you are looking for a new job because your boss is an ahole and you want dollar dollar bills. You would say that you are looking to build your career and seek out challenging opportunities or whatever. The reason you didn’t get hired isn’t for your reason for getting out of the military, it is because they thought you were a liability who is gonna cause issues. Anyways, transitioning is tough. Best wishes and good luck. Polish your story.

like

Yeah, I screwed that up 100%

Why would you bring that up? You should have prepared and this should have been a potential question. Also an interviewer would not have told you why you didn't get a job. You obviously know what you did "wrong".

Civilians are generally scared of the truth and of anything that makes them uncomfortable. And you did both in one shot. I’m sure women are being jammed through there, but telling people out here just makes it sound like you’re a bigot, even if it is true. At least you didn’t mention race or you’d have been social media shamed into oblivion

Never be “this” honest during the interview process. There is time for that conversation and that is well after you get the position. They are looking for reasons to hire and not to hire you.

When I interviewed they told me I was not required to recruit but now I’m required to upload 50 “My Relationships” every certain amount of months where other recruiters can technically go after my contacts and recruit them and also am expected to invite potential networking to events and through the beaker model. Is this required? I feel forced and I’ve only been here for less than a month and I’m not loving this approach.

This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Also, any good law firm suggestions for EB1A petitions based academic credentials? Thanks for the help
