I just found out my promotion was approved. I was researching company policies and I couldn’t find anything that says there is a cap on % raise. Current salary is $110k and I’m looking to ask for $140k which is the lower mid-range for my new role. If they try to say that it’s too high of an increase, do I have any leverage to counter?

It’s not something I’ve ever seen published. Norm is 5%, 10% is high. If you have a manager who’ll go to bat for you, anything is possible - but it can be a metaphoric fistfight

like

That’s awesome - glad you’re working somewhere that prioritizes people over process.

It’s not always as black and white as turning a job down because of the short term $$$s: I moved from a regional to global director role - huge increase in the scope of my responsibilities, team went from 5 (all direct) to 11 (6 directs), opex budget more than doubled - and I had to ask for a raise and got 6%. But it got me out from a team where the VP wasn’t going anywhere and even if they had been, there were two others likely to get the promotion ahead of me. I was promoted to VP 13 months after moving into the global role with a base comp jump of 18%, bonus increase from 25% to 40% and LTIs doubling.

like

Do you think you could reasonably find another job for that amount? Would you say that 140 is consistent with local market rates for that position? You could bring in some numbers and see if that helps move the needle.

like

Maybe once upon a time. But these days no because management doesn’t care. They will replace you with AI.

like

If $140k is lower mid-range only you know if you have leverage to get it. Go prepared with measurable results as to why you feel you deserve what you’re asking for.

It really depends on what the new role is relative to your current role. I’ve never seen any promotion or annual comp increases that are negotiable and normally you get what they give you unless you call their bluff and say you will lever or have another offer. But in this economy need to be prepared of them still not budging and telling you to go.

Anybody know salary range for VP Operations for GS in SLC?

I recently interviewed for VMLY & R for a senior account executive…I asked for $85k - $95k they said max they can do is $85k and that’s pushing but u looked on Glassdoor and the average is like $115k should I keep pushing for more?

Got an offer for Sr. Financial Analyst for 85k & 10% annual bonus. What's a good counteroffer? I told the recruiter 95k-110k when I first interviewed. This position is 100% remote, headquartered in VA. I live in NYC. Have roughly 2 YOE.

Thanks.

Things have been a bit bumpy (not a me issue) I have a new supervisor and was recently given 7 direct reports (I had zero before). The new position while comes with a significant raise is a move to California. Any thoughts?
