Yes. In your contract you need to state when payment is due. You need to clearly state when final payment is due, 30 days, net 30 or net 40, etc.
"Start charging?" That should have been standard verbiage in the contract from day one.
Mine stipulates a PIF deadline 30 days from delivery with 10% of total outstanding billable added after the 30th day, and an additional 10% each 30th day after that. In over 20 years, I've had clients exceed the initial 30 days only 4 times.
Put it in your contract
I did work for a large Agri Tech company they were net 90. Good thing I didn’t live paycheck to paycheck
add rush rates, no-communication policy, payment terms, cancellation policy. I send a pdf invoice that says Due On Receipt in big letters. This NetX shit is just bonkers to me. Pay me for the time/work or you don’t get either; if you don’t pay when you order, you don’t get the meal. hardest part about this for me is I couldn’t afford legal fees to take anyone to court, and I need any work I can land, so you gotta bake in as much security as you can. 👍
That’s why lately, I have opted for going on a w2. I get paid when their staff does. These days, Top Ramen for dinner is a fun thought.
