How bad is it to leave an understaffed team right before fall busy for a job in a new city? Part of me doesn’t care at all b/c it’s a business decision, part feels like I’m totally screwing the team.

Just came back today to the office from a 3 day bereavement leave. Performance reviews were apparently done Tuesday. Senior partner who does the reviews left out of town Wednesday. Concerning?

Is it advisable to hand in your notice prior to background checks being completed? If not surely when they approach my current employer they’ll know, or are they discreet?

I recently joined a small-sized product based company.I have not been able to get along with my manager. He does not give me full information on assigned tasks and expects me to follow his order to the letter like in a military. When I ask him doubts he either scolds me or laughs at me like I am dumb. Looking for advice:
My dept has 2 directors. One is so rude. The other ignores the issue. The previous HR director told me to report any issues because she was building a case (not appropriate info to share, I know). She's since left and there's a new HR director. This rude guy has recently sent me several very rude things through email and I'm debating how to handle it. Is it worth it to talk to HR? Im worried it'll just make things worse since none of it is "wrong", just rude and insensitive.

I feel like gay men especially are constantly discriminated against in the workplace. I have been turned down for a promotion, yet again, in favor of a married heterosexual with kids. This has been the story of my career. Have superior experience - stellar reviews - people fighting to get on to my team because our team is great and I treat everyone well. This is so frustrating. Again and again, it’s a culture of parents helping other parents. No gays in upper level mgmt in our office.

Left PA and started industry remotely. Haven’t been in the office. Met my team one time. Tips are to always be on video for even the smallest of calls. Take a ridiculous amount of notes. In downtime, go through your notes and come up with questions by reperforming old work. Set up recurring question sessions with your team so you know what to do next time. Set up performance meetings even monthly because it’s hard to get a gauge on your performance

How to handle working with someone who frustrates you immensely? I work with someone who is one level above me hierarchically and is an ultimate micromanager (not one agenda or recap can be without edits) and is rude about establishing that they have dominance. I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?
