I just re-entered Fishbowl and this bowl after a five year hiatus. Back in the day there were daily posts about how to prepare a cross, or draft discovery, or prepare for a deposition. At this point, I’m looking forward to telling opposing counsel in this one case that I’m leaving my firm more than telling my firm. Between the ridiculous theory of the case, the truly obnoxious discovery requests, and the self-righteous attitude, I can’t wait to never talk to this guy again.

I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.

How early in advance do you start preparing for a deposition that you are conducting? One month? One week? The night before?

Tips for my first defense trial? Med mal/wrongful death case. I’ll be examining our two medical experts and crossing many of Plaintiff’s. I’m a 6-year associate trying it with a partner who is retiring this year and having me do much of the heavy lifting. Any general advice would be appreciated, doesn’t have to be specific to this type of case.
