What is the pandemic version of "let's grab coffee". as a biz dev person I am struggling with how to make that initial connection. I offer up calls and/or zooms. Let us know if you have a good tip on how to break the ice with new biz/ get new potential clients interested.

Cut to the chase. I either need it or I don't, but I'm sure as hell not figuring that out for you. Throw it in the subject line, add a couple more sentences in the body. Done.

I read dozens of emails a day, I ignore 10X that. You're automatically in the ignore pile, you have a glance worth of attention to change that.

Don't make me work. Reading is work. Emails are work. If I want it, I want it now, and I want to put minimal time and effort into getting it, which means I'm picking up the phone and putting whatever work there is on you.

But once you seem like you can do something I want, I'm talking to you, and I'll be professional and respectful, and you can say your piece, and hey, maybe there's a fit and we can make it work.

If you've done all this a few times and haven't heard back, it's just not something I need now. But at least I know what you do and who to call, and I know you have numbers to hit, so if I do need it, I'm gonna come to you first.

That's just me. Others may need a bit more but I'm easy peasy :)

Nice! Good response. I think biz dev is more challenging now because it’s all email and linked in. No real networking. Not even phone calls because everyone is at home. Can’t show up with donuts or cookies or beer because no one is at the office. It’s making us have to get right to it as you say.

I am a California teacher looking to relocate. My son is pushing for Boerne. I have spent most of my life in small private Christian schools and loved it! When I moved to public school the large class sizes and trauma/sped students filling my classroom burned me out. I moved to homeschool this year (with my same district) and love it!!! I am curious about teaching in Texas. Class sizes, special ed, private school, etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thoughts on CAIA? Difficulty, hours studied, study tips, overall experiences, etc.? I’ll be sitting for Level 1 in September. Currently work in the fund of funds space - moving over to my firm’s hedge fund research team soon so CAIA seemed like a perfect way to get knowledge in the area beforehand. I’m almost one year out of undergrad (econ background) so a lot of the CAIA content is new to me

Say we’ve got a pitch in 3 weeks. What’s a typical fee for a freelance strategist to lead the strategy and work with the team to build the deck? How much would they make in that gig?

Fishies, I am hiring a partner in crime to help me introduce PETERMAYER to the national stage. This isn't your typical biz dev role - it's designed to be a hybrid/cross-discipline role for someone who wants to use their full creative, strategic brain and most definitely NOT stay in their lane. Know anyone that sounds like that, send them my way! (Agency is full-time flex/hybrid, but a desire to be NOLA-based is strongly preferred; however remote may be negotiable.)

Hi all! First : shout out to the folks who sold the super bowl clients! Question for all. What tools are you using for biz dev? For finding clients specifically. We are a video production house so our needs may be different but we want to grow direct to client work as well. I know of winmo, agency access and agency source. Any other online tools you are using? Thanks!

We've focused on networking and self promotion through a monthly newsletter for our new business process; sprinkled in with a tiny bit of RFPs. We're considering doing a mailing to targets. Thoughts?

How’s it going? Any good pitches or wins last couple weeks? We are a prod co and feel a lot busier! Prepping a big shoot and bidding jumped up a lot.

Anyone know of LA agencies hiring Biz Dev roles?

Thinking about biz dev on the media agency side: How do you find newness in strategy to get clients excited? Isn’t it 100% data now? As if media wasn’t unsexy enough.
How do media agencies do it?

Ive got a biz dev opportunity and client so far has said to come to their office but I’m Considering suggesting remote. With all going on. What do you think?

Hello! Wanted to reach out and say hello to all the bowl members. Is there anything you would like to see as far as discussion? Our bowl tends to not have a lot of activity but I know when I first started doing agency biz dev it was super helpful when I had questions. Let me know if anything is on your mind!

What is working for people to drive intro meeting opportunity. ? How are you breaking thru and getting someone to agree to an exploratory meeting?

Are you doing cold reach outs? Working only known connections? Or employing an automated marketing system? How you getting bid opportunities? We work connections and a lot of cold reach outs. Trying to get automated marketing of some type up and running.
