I just received a proposal to work with tax technology. As positive aspects, they cited a quicker progression to partnership, the flexibility to work from anywhere, including remotely from home, and a better work-life balance...

I'm currently in tax compliance/advisory

Any thoughts?

Working at a boutique transactiona firm. First year did not receive much guidance and made a few errors, one of which could have been a deal but ended up being fine but overall I worked hard, billed hours above target and showed a willingness to learn. Three main partners in the group. I feel like I may have been written off by the one partner, still get a fair amount of work from another and the third has never really given work but has a rep for doing things alone or using seniors. Curious what others think about this: a friend of mine has a couple of months of leave this fall to study for the CPA exam (they’ll be paid a reduced salary during their leave), but they mentioned they have no intention of studying for the exam, and instead plan to use that time to look for another job. This rubs me the wrong way, but wanted to hear what others think…
