I feel like I’m not learning anymore. At least not anything I can transfer to industry. All I know is tons of general info and I’m sort of wondering what I should do. Should I go to Big 4 for a year doing M&A tax, do corporate tax at Big 4…. I seriously don’t know. Looking at industry jobs has changed my perspective on my knowledge

If you want to get to a big industry job easily in tax, go to big4 in their general tax group and learn provisions.

agree. M&A tax is less useful in industry. You have to find a highly acquisitive company that for whatever reason doesn’t outsource the transaction work (most do). I’ve found those positions before, but they aren’t easy to find.

What do you think you're lacking?

Experience with corporations my time is split between partnerships, trusts, s corps, c corps, foundations, and individuals. So just about everything under the sun. I’ve never had to do a provision either

Hi everyone,

I’m considering a certification in Lean Six Sigma. I’ve been a physical therapist for the last 10+ years and am looking to advance my career possibly into healthcare informatics or management. Is a Lean Six Sigma worth it?

There’s a lot of website and organizations that offer it with varying prices. What is the difference?

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Anyone else have similar ideas?
