I just received an annual raise, and it was only 2%, but My work load has more than doubled in the last year. Although I’m trying to be grateful for anything, I feel like I deserved more. I clammed up when my manager first told me and now I don’t know how to reapproach the subject. Any advice?

You have to be open with your manager and communicate your feelings and show them the impact you bring. If you show in numbers that you deserve more, you can start a conversation about a better raise. It might not come right the way. but its the opportunity to learn what else do you need to make more.

You got this, the "no" you already have it if you never ask.

You could always go back and say, I've done a little bit of soul-searching, and I'm really not happy with this. I'm doing significantly more work and 2% doesn't feel like it addresses the increase in responsibility. Honesty is the best policy here, imo.

I really like how you phrased that. I think naming it as “soul-searching” takes some of the sting out and makes space for an honest conversation without sounding confrontational.

I think you need to be open and honest and thank them for the 2% raise and then maybe state your workload and ask for an additional raise! It’s such a tough subject to bring up, talking money is always awkward !

Yes, totally agree. I think I just froze in the moment and didn’t know how to walk that awkward line between gratitude and frustration. Appreciate the push to reopen it.

That sounds about right but I am sorry to hear that. We all know that won't even account for the cost of living increases. You definitely deserved more than that.

Almost 4 years ago I was hired to do payroll for 1099-NEC independent contractors (1 of 2 people for my location) . Since then, I've learned a lot about the industry/business & terminal operations. In my "education", I've also taken on many tasks/projects outside the scope of the original duties. Trying to think of an appropriate title that I can suggest to my boss during my raise discussion. Here are just some of the things in addition to payroll that I do: (continued in comments)

Would you guys consider leaving for a role that offers a much higher base salary but no opportunities to advance? Got an offer that’s an 85% raise adjusted for cost of living. How to ask for a raise when you have more responsibility ?
Is it normal for people to ask for a raise when more responsibility/task fall under them? My company is going through separation and unfortunately my team is the one getting separated, I have to take on responsibility of another 3 people and continue to deliver the same after separation… how will you start this conversation with your manager ? Thanks in advance.

My current title is Buyer. I handle the purchasing of the larger categories of direct materials and train any new Buyers. I also manage outsourcing and quoting of raw materials for new business, among other things.

I am looking at taking over capacity planning for manufacturing, while keeping my previous responsibility.

What could I suggest for a new title/promotion? There isn't an existing position that I would be filling, and I want to show career growth on my resume.

Need some inputs. My BU just went into a reorg which has benefitted me and I got a promise to a fast track promotion within 18 months of my joining. However, I’m passionate about a pm role and have got an offer for a rotation position. I’m not sure how to bring it up to my supervisor considering they made that promise only recently. How would you approach this situation

I know the raise will be in between 5-10%. But the part I missed the most is learning. I can use their portal but that is all theory and can’t do much if they don’t provide the time for it .

Just got a “Sheraton Vacations” special offer to basically get 5 nights at a Florida property for $250.

I read the fine print and other than a need to be flexible in terms of when you book, it doesn’t seem like there is a catch.

Anyone familiar with this “promotion” and what the downside might be? Or are they just looking to drive revenue to their other areas (restaurants, spa, etc) with a cheap room?

I think I’m doing great, but that depends on the day and who I work with (no other writers by the way).
