I just started using AI to draft my boss’s thank you notes and introductory emails, and it’s saving me about four hours a week. I’m a little worried that if they find out, they’ll think I’m being lazy or that the personal touch is gone. In my mind, it’s just another tool in the belt, but I know some EAs think it’s cheating. Are you guys embracing AI for correspondence, or are you keeping it strictly human?

I'm embracing it, and I bet your boss would have much less issue with this than you're imagining. I'm judged based on professionalism, not personalization. AI helps me sound more professional. End of story.

Embrace AI. A lot of companies/bosses would be disappointed if you are not using it for tasks that could be autotomised

like

Embrace it. If what comes out produces the long em dash --, take it out. That's the first sign that AI is being used. AI loves an em dash for whatever reason. You can also feed AI your bosses typical communication examples to have it try and match their tone more.

like

Absolutely not lazy! You’re resourceful and efficient. AI doesn’t know your boss’ tone or context that’ll make the notes more personal. That’s all you! AI is the way of the future and as my boss put it - it’s helping clear things off my plate to help with more in depth, strategic thinking. Embrace it!

like

I wouldn’t see it as a tool in your tool belt. I would see it as the thing that’s going to replace you. Once your boss realizes how much of your tasks can be outsourced to AI they’re going to have less need for you.

Unfortunately that is the fear, however I would challeng everyone that has the same fear to read The AI-Driven Leader by Geoff Woods. Should help lessen your concerns

I use both! I actually enjoy writing but AI is a time saver as you've discovered :)

Definately NOT being lazy, being more efficient. Embrace it as much as possible. Currently working on an Agent to help with additional tasks

This past week I got an envelope hand delivered to me by a student I do not teach. In it was a trans pin she had bought for me, as well as a drawing and a letter of thanks.

Again, this is not my student, but I think this speaks to the power of visibility. Students need to know we are members of society. All I did was wear my own trans pin and “love is love” pin on my lanyard, and my trans flag mask (occasionally).

But for that student it was enough.

How would you approach an interview process where the company sounds exciting but you feel confident the role would not be a growth opportunity for your skill set? Is there a good way to respectfully approach that topic with the interview team and find a role that might be more exciting for you? Or is it better to walk away?

Come on folks.

Do you seriously think you can shame Republicans out of fetishizing guns? Millions of senseless deaths haven't changed their minds yet, and this isn't going to be any different.

It’s absolutely insane there’s no common sense gun control measures that can make it past this NRA-funded congress.

I’ve heard salaries have gone up quite a bit in the midst of the pandemic and I’m wondering if this is true for EAs as well. There’s a myriad of data online about EA salaries depending on age/experience but I’m interested in salaries from jobs accepted in 2020/2021 specifically!

Please feel free to share:

- Your salary from any job accepted in 2020/2021
- Any offers you may have received but rejected
- Your length of experience

Thank you!
