First impressions are usually accurate. Surprised it took 4 months.
I’d probably ride it out at least until the end of tax season. Try to keep an open mind. Do they just do things differently than your old firm and you are just adapting to a new environment or do you feel like culturally it’s not a good fit. Just be sure you fully understand why it doesn’t feel right and if your gut is telling you it’s not a good fit, I’d leave right after busy season
Let me guess… PWC to BDO
Is BDO CC that good of a culture?
Yes
F
Yes.
which company was your old PA firm?
I’m here for the dirt on which company is the new one 👀
I'd suggest you don't waste time if you can already tell it's not what you expected/wanted. I made the mistake, stuck it out and not much has changed. Other than feeling completely checked out for the past weeks (over a year in already).
How do you know if your previous employer will accept your request to be employed there again? I believe it's a mistake to return - find something else.
Sure, four months it a lot of time to really know what you've walked into. If you can hold out, it might look better to put in more time. But if you can go back to your old post, you might want to just do it before you lose that opportunity.
I feel something similar with my new firm. But I will stay at least one year. It doesn’t look good on resume to quit during a tax season.
Oh okay. But I won’t get back to my old firm. We’re a little different. I’m the person that never looks back lol
I would give it a 8-12 months chance to adapt to the culture and understand their processes when it comes to technology and work style or team dynamics. If you realized after 6-8 months that it’s not you trying to adapt to a new company but the company itself doesn’t align with your goal, than you may start an exit strategy. Frankly, speaking 4 months is still a gray area to decide, specially if you moved from a well established PA firm to another well established firm chances are they would be very different in every area.
If you really love the people and you love working there, maybe you can help implement some changes to be more automated an organized they would love you for that!
Gotta be careful with that though. Easy way to take on more work and more responsibility without more pay. If you get your role switched, that’s one thing, but I’ve learned the hard way, initiative results in more work but not more pay
It's enough time. I knew within the first week of a job that I had made a mistake and that it wasn't going to work out. People told me to give it time. I waited 2 years. Time cemented that it was very much a mistake. Save yourself.
I'm here for the old one
Yes, definitely. I recently went thru the same thing. Plus the office drama was toxic. Better pay isn't always worth it.
Listen to advice from Deloitte 1, Tax Partner 1 & High School 1. I started a role at a company that was a hot mess. I was able to hire a Senior that i knew i could rely on and Almost 6 months in things are looking much better and we are putting processes in place. Don't give up so quickly, just give it a little time.
