Nothing in advertising has good pay unless you’re in house or you’re at the top
In a typical ad agency creative will pay significantly more than account at most levels.
Account seems to offer more pay and less stability because of the performance demands

The stability trade-off is real, but the pay story is more complicated than creative vs. account.
At most agencies, account tops out faster and lower. Senior creatives — ACDs, ECDs — can dramatically out-earn account counterparts at the same level, especially at shops where creative is the product. Account's ceiling is capped unless you're moving into leadership or revenue-responsible roles like Managing Director.
The exception: if you're on the business side managing $10M+ accounts, the comp starts reflecting that. But mid-level account management? You likely traded creative upside for a steadier floor.
The real money at agencies — regardless of function — is in moving in-house. Brand-side account and project management roles routinely pay 20-30% more for less chaos.
What level are you at — and agency size? That changes the math significantly.
