I am a Caucasian woman and having the same problem. I have wondered if it was due to my sex as most leadership in my office is primarily men. It is frustrating for sure. Prayers to you and I both. We can do it!
I am not going to pretend like discrimination doesn’t exist based on a ton of different things. However it is truly difficult right now, the job market has been absolutely trash this past year. Very hopeful it will get better next year, not helpful for those of us that need to work now though.
Very true. Hint, if over 40, try not giving details which indicate age.
Are you African American or an immigrant? I have insight into both however if the company needs to sponsor someone you have a steep battle. Budgets are being pinched across the country and while companies want to hire the best qualified candidate, the cost of sponsoring someone is prohibitive.
If you mean Black people in general without sponsorship, that is more on a case-by-case basis. Things are better than they have been in the past but still not on an equal playing field in many industries. The wage gaps between the majority population and Americans of color had been getting smaller. We'll see what the future holds.
I'd recommend reaching out to your personal network and ask for referrals. Certifications really help as well if they are within your industry. I also recommend mock interviews with someone you trust to give you honest feedback. I was always told we have to be above reproach in comparison to other candidates. I hope you find something soon!
Great reply
It is hard for everyone.
I have actually overheard someone state as ai I left an interview that they could not hire me because I am not black. My name is frequently associated with the black community. Also gender discrimination, age, weight.
