I really want to go the Maldives this year. I am currently single and my friends cannot afford it. Would you go alone?

I am in a travel group and a few of my friends travel alone from time to time. I actually used to belong to a Facebook group called “Sisters traveling solo”. I no longer have Facebook or otherwise I would still be in the group.

The group is very large and people typically traveling alone post their photos and activities. That way you can search in the group, places you are interested in traveling to, and you can set up an itinerary based on what others have done. And if anyone shares negative experiences about a place then you will know not to go to that location, like a certain area of town, bar, restaurant, etc.

Also, if you find someone who is planning the same trip around the same time, maybe you can DM them and make a friend that you could plan your trip with. When my 16 year old son and I travelled to Paris together, I was able to get a recommendation for a photographer that way and he and I had an amazing photo shoot there.

Also, the group owner of Sisters Travelling Solo frequently has trips planned and puts together packages for anyone wanting to join, that way you can with like minded individuals who love to travel and are “sisters”.

Good Luck!!!

Thank you all for your insights. Happy 2024!

I travelled to 30 countries alone before I got married… you’ll be okay. Enjoy and embrace this season

If it’s safe, then yes I would!! I went to DR alone once.

Just go. Leave broke folks in 2023. Go live your life

Love this. Lol

I will be 31 this year and have put off every single thing I have been wanting to do until I get a man. I will no longer being doing that. As long as it is safe, go.

In 2024, we are living our life and doing things we want to do even if we have no one to enjoy it with. Life is unpredictable.

I travel alone but the Maldives feels like a bae destination. It’s just you and water. So if you just wanna be in a cute overwater villa alone fine.

Yes the Maldives is just your hotel and the ocean- you will have 0 problems.

Yes. I travel solo all of the time. Been traveling solo for 10+ years now. I think it’s the scariest and best thing you can ever give yourself. Maybe Start with a local or domestic trip first to get your solo travel bearings and then prepare for the big trip!

Thank you! I love to travel and I am sick of coordinating budgets or using my points for other people

If you want to have an experience then go for it. Live your life.

Yes! If you’re nervous about it- have a well planned itinerary where you schedule both group activities and alone time.
Solo spa and brunch, group tours or classes (museums, hikes, aquatics, crafts, cooking class,) actually let loose and participate in the cringey resort stuff-dance like no one is watching (i did this once and by the time the night time/clubby experiences started people recognized me from aqua fitness and wanted to hang with me because they knew I’d have a good time and create a shameless environment)
If resorts are not your thing go the airbnb route-find one where the hosts are more involved( if you want that) you’ll have a more authentic experience, ensure that you’re safe and guided, and still enjoy touristic amenities.

Yes!! I've traveled by myself to a few places - Jamaica, Spain, Cape Town, etc. You may have to take a few extra precautions to be safe, but I've loved all of my solo travel experiences and highly recommend it. The Maldives sound wonderful.

I would definitely go! Just be safe!

Yes, there are also travel groups on Facebook especially for BW. I believe they are in Capetown or going next month. If I go alone the friends I met on vacay we are still traveling buddies. Then my regular friends wind up coming along for the next one. Lol 😂

I like this… for solo travel have you guys looked into companies that travel?

Solo black girl travel companies?

Out of context question.

Does anyone know 80G foundations that we can donate to, who could give something worthy in return?

One example, ISKCON membership. It costs 35k, but you get stays at ISKCON guest houses domestic/internationally at minimal costs of room maintenance.

Planning a trip to Rome and Naples with day trips to Tivoli and Pompeii. Is 1 week enough? I feel like reading through 3/4 day Rome and 2 day Naples itineraries, the trip seems rushed. I have unlimited PTO but my SO is limited in time (but luckily he can work extra hrs and then use less PTO). I would say max we could do is 1.5 weeks but adding on 3-5 more days seems almost too much? Thoughts? For reference, I did Venice-Florence-Rome in a week and it seemed okay but it also wasn’t as planned out

I’m not bad with money but definitely lots of room to improve overall, due to several personal factors I don’t want to list in full here (numerous unanticipated medical bills, bad boyfriends, etc.) Hence why I only have $3k in savings right now. My first mini goal is to have $5k saved by the end of December. I need motivation and words of encouragement. If I pay off my medical bills, I won’t make my goal. I have to start putting saving money first. Getting depressed about my situation.
