What do you think, fellow 🐠?
Hi international fishes, two Qs: 1. If I received a full scholarship from the school, should I apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa? 2. Does STEM OPT eligibility only apply to F-1? From my understanding with J-1 you have only 18 months of OPT without any extensions Thank you!
Those who've had to let go following an H1B denial, does the firm expect you to resign or is this counted as 'Termination for cause'
Creating this to hopefully connect with criminal/immigration defense attorneys, social workers, and prisoners rights advocates around issues in working with clients who are locked up. I do immigration defense in PA for adults and families in detention.
Already signed the offer with 30pct bump and new company initiated h1b transfer, but old company asked if I am interested in perm. What are legal consequences of asking old company initiate gc and have both perm by old company started with h1b transfer by new company in progress. The goal is to have options open as long as possible given that h1b transfer could take 6-8 weeks before making ‘final’ decision in these uncertain times. (Not from country with long wait time in perm.)
Random shower thought 🐠: can immigration lawyers be on H1B? If so, do they represent themselves 🤔 💭
Always thinking should I buy home while working on H1B or stick to rental unit. Many people are buying home as interest rates are low but on other hand home prices are also insane at some places. What are pros snd cons buying house? Are you really going to save a lot when sell property after 3-4 years if decided to move back? Thoughts?
Willing to make a plan for moving to north america. What would be the better option- 1- Look for H1b 2- Canada express entry As of now I don't have anything. I am from IT background with 10 yr exp Thanks in advance
The current practice leadership mentioned I am not a high performer and will not sponsor green card application. Should I start to look for other jobs?
Anyone get a H1b transfer approved? Were there any issues that came up? About to go through process.
I had submitted my passport for H1B extension Dropbox and now the status says “passport has been received from consular section and is currently being processed for delivery” so it means its approved?
Folks, I recently got my i140 approved under EB1. How does this change things for me? I already have H1B for 2+ years. I am India born so close to 5 years for the priority day to become current. TIA!
If you have an approved H1B but are still on STEM OPT, and you want to change jobs... do you lose your H1B or can you switch employers but still keep your H1B?
Thoughts? Situation - 1 year left of H1B (currently in 5the year) Current company has finished PWD stage and waiting to file PERM Question - If i get offer from a new company, can they pick up from my current GC stage or is waiting to get i140 the only option? Anyone did this/experiences?
Currently on F1 STEM OPT - 14 months left. My new employer plans to immediately file for GC. What is I don’t get through H1B lottery in the remaining period? Is it possible to reach the I-140 stage in 12-14 months? If yes, does it in any way extend my EAD on F1? Or will I still be required to leave US?

How do you come to terms with just not being smart enough to get to the next career level? Currently a senior consultant and the partners seem super humanly smart and good at their job, I think this is as high up as my brain can get
Unless you’re incredibly outstanding or have an in with an existing employee, is it essentially impossible to get into an MBB?
I am noticing that McKinsey is increasingly recruiting at non-elite schools (very roughly speaking not top 15 schools). At my old undergrad, 5 years ago the most competitive firm to show up was EY. This year McKinsey took 4 non-internship full hires. Why is McKinsey going “down market” for recruiting? Are elite school kids losing interest in consulting so McK has to cast a wider net? Or is McK seeking a wider pool for other reasons? I advise undergrads on consulting so want to be best informed.
A lot of my close friends in Tech are SWEs and are making ~400-500k / year. I am in Consulting and make ~160k/yr. I know this is already a lot and I am super privileged, but I still struggle with comparison. I have no interest in being a SWE but I still struggle with the lesser money I make. How do I deal with this apart from aspiring for higher paid professions?
@ Deloitte fish - can someone explain how the WBS code is used? And what the diff components of it mean? I just started from a different Big 4 and I’m confused
I want to benchmark earning and savings for those 37 - 40. I’m in bad shape but hoping to change that. Salary? $320K Savings? $80K Retirement? 0 Investments? $5K Debt? $180K
LinkedIn question: Do you change your title or enter a new job experience section for promotions at the same company? I've seen it done both ways, but wondering what is most common, especially because I want to "notify" connections and GTFO of Deloitte.
I feel like the longer I spend working in consulting, the more unrealistic my salary expectations become
Anyone looking to apply to the D we got an email that we’re on a hiring freeze (exception only) for the rest of the FY. So maybe wait to put that app in 👌🏻.
If you had $2M at the age of 45 and a paid off house and only needed $200k/year could you stop working?
Thoughts on Point B. Go
I live in constant fear of the glass ceiling.
