P.S. I know Black women are underrepresented in corporate spaces so that doesn’t surprise me, I just hoped for a clear snapshot of where they stand now and if they have any goals for what they are striving toward. (It’s a company with less than 200ppl so asking for a general number isn’t an unrealistic ask.)
I’m not trying to rake anyone over the coals I just want to understand what kinds of spaces I’m entering. I’ve been the only one before and it’s exhausting. 😞
BW Recruiter here. NOT making excuses for anyone, because this should not even be an issue, pre or post-“Racial awakening.” But think about it this way. The same scale you’re measuring these companies against is the same other people of color are using since 2020. The growing number of companies lighting up your LinkedIn inbox is the nearly identical to those of black women all over the country.
All of this to say, we have options. And the minute a candidate sees an area where a company is lacking these days, they won’t even think twice, just pass on the job. When the supply outweighs the demand, we’re going to keep running into agencies who are struggling to hire people of color, creating a cycle.
And as a modern day recruiter, it’s difficult to speak on a story we had no power to write, so I feel for the recruiter in not having the best answer to this question. Who you should be reserving these hard hitters for? The hiring managers, leadership and other interviewers who have probably had a hand in keeping black women out in the past.
Love that you’re holding these companies accountable. It’s moving industries in the right direction 🤞🏾!
I DID NOT even think about the dealing with confrontation issue! Oof. SUCH a good point! Thanks again for all this great food for thought, I appreciate you sis!
