I recently moved from a carrier to a TPA. I practiced law, moved to claims and now handle niche claims. I moved from the carrier for a more remote environment and growth opportunity. I have become responsible for so much more but feel like I made a mistake leaving the stability of a carrier. I work more now, feel unsteady and like I am not qualified to lead even though I have great experience. I want to move to management and further my career but can’t shake imposter syndrome and fear. Advice?

Hang in there. As you progress through the position, you will keep gaining more experience. I have never met an adjuster or an attorney who hasn’t made a mistake. It’s how do you respond when you make a mistake. You can let it eat you up inside or you could take that and put it in the bucket of experience and keep making headway. Sometimes it’s a grind and sometimes it comes with a sense of fulfillment. You will be fine, just know that everyone has made the mistakes.

TPA work can be much wilder. Understand that you will need to be more bold, adaptable and confident. Just do your best and trust your past experience and don’t be so afraid of making mistakes. As long as your decisions are well reasoned and supported by the facts at your disposal, even if it is a mistake it will be ok. We cannot avoid mistakes, but we can avoid mistakes that are the result of negligence or laziness. As long as you are not negligent or lazy, you have done what you could. Perform your duty and be detached from the results.

Talk to your manager. See what opportunities might be available soon. What do you need to develop to be considered for those roles.

I’m not a big thanksgiving person. I’m not ungrateful, I kinda just go thru the motions. Except this past year had more motion than usual. Shit went bad. It hurt. I fell apart. One of my only stable forces was my job. I didn’t think about it at the time. I am now. It would be weird tell my team this, a lot of personal details would have to be explained, and I’d cry, so I’m saying it here instead. I am thankful for my team. I am thankful for my desk. I am thankful for the same meetings I complain about. Even when I’m only ‘responding without comments’, I’m still thankful.

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

Hello everyone ,
I’m currently working in insurance customer service at an agency. I work in the mortgage department assisting w mortgage changes , payments etc. I’ve been thinking about becoming a claims adjuster most likely for property damage . Is it worth it ??? I hear a lot of talk about how claims adjusting is a lot of work and very demanding but I think my current position has prepared me for the challenge. What are some good companies I maybe should apply for after getting my license?
