First, I'm sorry to hear this. Avoiding small talk may seem anti-social and is sometimes challenging, but keep it short if it's not about work-related matters. Find your people at work (through an ERG or other spaces if they're available) -- sometimes you have to create your own, unfortunately. But having people you trust that you can talk to in the unfortunate event you are encountered with a microaggression goes a long way!
Find another job. This will eventually affect your mental health.
If you work at fidelity, they are HUGE on their push for d&i. So, if you find yourself in that situation document the action, its impact on you, and then ask how it aligns with their d&i initiatives that they spend tons on yearly. Start throwing shit back in these companies’ faces when they talk all this d&i stuff but people are still treated less than. Keep it objective, (aside from how it impacts you i.e, causing anxiety, stress etc). But most importantly call those people out, don’t let them get away with it. Ask them what they meant by something or to explain it. If you are unable to at the time, send them an email recapping the interaction. But don’t stay quiet..:that’s how they continue to do stuff
Yes, they are still actively doing dei and still under the dei leadership of Wendy John who is their head of dei. And even if they weren’t, doesn’t make This acceptable.
