Some people are better at compartmentalizing than others. Also some people use work as a distraction from outside stressors. Did your colleague seem distracted when working? Did she make mistakes? If no I wouldn’t worry about it and let her manage her stressors the way she needs to.

I get that view, but I think we underestimate it sometimes. Even if mistakes are not obvious, stress still impacts focus and energy in ways we do not always see.
Definitely. There's a bit of a de facto "don't ask, don't tell" policy at most companies. No one cares how you're doing on the personal front; the only thing that matters is your productivity while you're on the clock.

I have seen that culture too, and it never sits right with me. People are expected to perform as if nothing is happening, even when life outside work is heavy.
It depends a lot on the person. It was a skill I had to work on to not let home bother me while at work. Absolutely will follow you if you let it.

I agree it is a skill, but not an easy one. I have found that even when I try to compartmentalise, some things still follow me into work whether I like it or not.
