I feel this too! But I’m going to therapy and my therapist is supporting on 2 things: 1. Exposure - the more you do the things you’re afraid of, the more comfortable you get with that anxious / uncomfortable feeling. It doesn’t go away but you build trust in your self and your ability to handle things. 2. Working on my self esteem and beliefs. A lot of our beliefs about ourselves are a product of bad experiences like the one you mentioned where your work was torn apart. Try being aware of these beliefs, linking it to the experiences that caused the beliefs and then reframing those. Over time, your brain also learns and follows the same language subconsciously. So instead of “I’m nervous they will tear my work apart again”, “I’m nervous because of past experiences and that’s okay. However, I have learnt from those experiences or the work culture there wasn’t supportive but I’m not in the same culture anymore”. Good luck - I believe in you!
Work trauma is real.
Do you think it’s more skills based or anxiety based? Sounds like you were ‘conditioned’ to think you just can’t do it…good enough.
My first thought is that the job market is hostile right now. Even if you start applying, you have the opportunity right now to meet the moment. What resources do you need to make that process easier? A job coach? Therapy? Journaling… how are you going to get there?
These are the questions id be asking myself I think, esp since the job market is so bad. Maybe it’s time to flip your mental script??
You could just talk to a psychiatrist… explain what’s going on and that it’s impacting your work… they’ll give you something to help with it…
