Thoughts on the new Chase Freedom Flex?
For PwC fishes who left recently, how did you consolidate wealth builder into 401k within benefits express to avoid the 20% federal tax withholding that was described in the benefits package? I tried to do this online but it didn’t show as an option except to rollover to an existing IRA or take a final distribution. Do I need to call benefits express?

Depends on the locality, but I was a GS 13 step 3 and only made 103k with 12 YOE. Benefits depend on the agency, but regardless be prepared for a pay cut. After all the fed programs you have to pay into, take home is going to be even less even if pay was the same. One of the biggest reasons I left fed is the junk pay.
BAH1, I’m almost at 200k and was looking at that same kind of cut (<100k). Sure money isn’t everything but man that’s really hard to overcome. Especially when so many mission roles are also contractors now.
I’ve landed a couple of interviews for GS-13s with less experience, so I wouldn’t write it off. Tbf though I’m still waiting on results
If you make it past the interview and recieve an offer, you can submit your current pay for consideration. Most of the time they will put you on whatever step is equivalent to your current salary. Only exception would be if you hit the cap for gs-11.

Highly dependent on the agency and org within the agency. Some will easily put you at whatever step matches or is closest to matching your current pay, others will match up to a particular step, and others start you at step 1 regardless.
I am a former fed HM at several agencies and my reqs fell into all three buckets pretty much at HR's whim.
Definitely ask for a higher starting step, but don't be surprised if they either don't budge from step 1 or only go to, say, a step 5.
In the govt, like almost every other workspace, the cream rises to the top. Don’t ever look at your starting salary. Look two grades ahead and you will find that you can quickly rise through the ranks of you excel and continue to learn.
I stated as a GS-5 and retired as a GS-15 step 10. With grade comes responsibility and accountability and that often culls out slot of folks that are purely grade chasers. Benefits are solid (better matching, pension, etc). The bonus structure is terrible and you may go several years with no pay raise depending on the administration.
Getting a GS-15 is mostly being at the right place at right time. Recommend going to an agency where you get strong leadership support with high visibility work. When having those, it’s show time thus perform like a champ and promotions will happen. If however you’re in an agency with no support structure take a lateral somewhere else.
