Therapy and weed.
There’s like 2 junior art director roles in the us and you have one of them
I sure miss even 10 years ago. It was at least semi-normal. Feel bad for those trying to come up the ranks now. It’s brutal.
Honestly if you’re sick from stress you’re probably normal & it’s not for you. I took a 730 am train to work today & I’m just in transit home looking forward to nutty creatives who need me super early morning and treat me like a secretary even though I’m almost an EP. it’s fine to pivot and do something else! The world is big, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I’m great at looking at resumes/happy to help. Don’t get discouraged. Feel free to DM me.
Hang in there but start looking. Job market for freelance is bad. Be happy you have an income.
Do you watch march madness? Survive and advance. One day at a time. At night and weekends and breaks — network your butt off. Extreme networking. Bug people politely. Ask CDs from other shops to coffee. Or a quick video chat. Ask them to introduce you to their network. Politely. And so on. Hopefully, eventually- you turn contacts into acquaintances and acquaintances into friends and someone remembers you and puts you high on their list. This beats taking your chances on the hundreds if not thousands of applicants on a decent LinkedIn notification.
This is the reality of the market and the shrinking number of opportunities we’re currently experiencing. It’s not you. Please know that. And while you’re networking at night, whiskey and edibles go a long way.
Good luck out there, kid.
Outsource your work on Fiverr. No one will know the difference and you can work normal hours.
Fiver is such a race to the bottom. Slaving 120 hr weeks at $4/hr because im competing with the top graphic designers from places with a 1/5th of my coast of living seems like hell
Working in agencies at 24 is a grind but it’s how you learn, grow, and meet people that will leave and spread out. Every place I’ve ever worked has a different kind of crazy. It takes time to mature in your career so you can pick the kind of crazy that works for you. Word hard, keep your head up, and be the person people want to work with. Sometimes you learn more by working at hellish agencies for awhile. It can build a foundation for a great career. Take a long term view of it, and when someday you’re a leader, you’ll know how not to do things and maybe you’ll know how to make bad agencies better.
Another way to put it: paying your dues! We’ve all been there. VML&R2 is spot on. You still have a lot to learn. Be that person who is a go to. Ignore the politics and kill it on every assignment. Hopefully you will have something good for your portfolio as time goes by. You’re only 24. You have a long career ahead of you. Good luck.

It’s tough, ik art directors get A LOT thrown on them. Try to set boundaries and go a little easier on yourself if work is just eating up your whole life.
Network and shop around in the meantime. You’re basically a mid-level at this point, and should get some more money at your next job.
If you are under too much stress, see a therapist; they may approve you for short-term disability (2-3 months) for mental health. During the time off, apply for other jobs.
That could be a reason to be let go. Deal with it bc all holding company agencies are a hellhole. Just the nature of the beast.
How would it blow up your life? At your age, with no kids to support (I assume) you could unplug and go live and work in an amazing faraway country. Teach English while freelancing remote. Your life will explode in new amazing ways. It worked for me.

How is moving to a faraway country (even if it’s amazing) not blowing up your life?
OP could have friends, family, and/or a way of life here that they don’t want to leave behind.
I’m looking for someone who can keep me company and give me advice whenever I need them and I reward you by paying your bills and also assist you finically with as your weekly allowance 🛍️💕
