Go get fitted, it is worth it if you are going to buy a brand new anything. A lot of places will do a basic fitting for shaft, loft, lie for free if you buy through them
I was thinking of doing a fitting! I’ve only been playing for about 3 years and I’m roughly a 15 handicap. My clubs are really old and I feel like they’re starting to hold me back from scoring low
Agree with the above.
To answer your question of buying new driver or irons, I’d go with irons. There seems to be solid used drivers out there. A friend recently got a barely used SIM driver on Facebook marketplace for about 1/3 cost of new.
Citing what others have said, but you can play an entire round of golf without ever using your driver. You're going to use irons/wedges every hole.
Fitting is good, but it depends on your handicap. I was told by some teaching pros that fitting can be detrimental if you're anything higher than 15 or so hdcp just because you're still trying to improve your swing and the fitting fits to your current swing and style. If that's changing, it may not be beneficial.
For a good way to save on newer clubs, use globalgolf, their clubs are always in stellar condition, and the pricing and shipping is good and quick. Never had any issues. They have a great U-Try program where you can put down a deposit on irons, driver, putter, etc and use them for 2 weeks while they put a hold on your account for the amount. You can play them, go to the range, whatever for 2 weeks, no restrictions, and then you send them back or keep them and they just charge your account, with the deposit going to your account.
Bought my irons this way.
I appreciate it! Im right in that sweet spot at 15 handicap haha but I have heard good things about global golf. I’ll check it out!
If it had to be a binary choice, get the irons new and fitted.
Depending on your handicap/game - go for irons fitting first. But if your driver is more than 6/7 years old then you should get a driver
If you’re on facebook, join the page Gimme Golf! He has awesome prices & ships fast - he does a “live at 9” on friday nights usually 1-2x per month.
Switch to hybrids! Game changer!
