I was “displaced” from the IT department of a large financial institution. At the time I was about to take FMLA to care for an elderly parent. I have HUGE amounts of resentment and anger as this happened at 61 years old. The family member has recovered and I’d like to go back to work (in the middle of all this I’m about to have back surgery) but have no idea where to start aside from sensing I’ll be lucky to get 1/2 what I was making! In this economy! Ok, today’s rant is over.

You didn't specify how long you've been out of the industry but a lot has changed over the last year. Nobody can find work and IT people in their 60s can pretty much forget about it. Enjoy early retirement.

I just started a new job 2 months ago, benefits and PTO don’t start until 90 days in so I still have a month before I can take off any time, and today found out my company doesn’t offer paid maternity leave.
I’m really struggling handling the symptoms and maintaining my full time job. Thinking about looking for a part time job to have more time to myself through the pregnancy since I won’t be getting a paid leave anyways, but lost on where to start looking. Any recommendations?

Can you help explain why a team would be able to afford hiring an individual under PDM at a higher salary but unable to offer the same package under the Traditional route?

For context, I’m currently negotiating for a role and have expressed some of my concerns. My recruiter has been very helpful, but I’d like to better understand the reasoning before making my decision. The offer is $100k for PDM, but $85k max if brought on as Traditional.

Thank you for your help and any additional thoughts!

Asking advice from a recruiter: I’ve been recently laid off :( This week I took some time to reflect, talk to friends and family. I want to be more thoughtful on my next move and although interviewing right away would be logical I feel I want to take a break and some time for myself. Take a month or two off working and use that time to plan thoughtfully on my next move. Would having that gap in my resume be an issue when I go back to the job market?
