I was talking to a friend who always negotiates, no matter what, and it made me realize I don’t have that same default mindset yet. Do most people here negotiate every single offer?

No. Up until a couple of years ago, yes, but it's not a smart move in this competitive of a job market if you need the job. Employers have a lot of great candidates to choose from who will be willing to accept whatever they are offered. You have to decide if the risk is worth the offer being rescinded to you or not.

thats a great point. the market today is very competitive

I do. If I ever get one that completely blows me away and seems too good to be true, I won't. But as that hasn't happened - and is unlikely to - I'm going to keep negotiating for every extra dollar.

haha very fair - thats a great point

Yep, I pretty much have done it for all my job offers.

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

I work as a Business Development Manager at a sports club.. I’ve been given a couple of months “trial” in the 6 figure and above sales in which I don’t see going back to my other role on lower sales. This was a somewhat good move for me until I consider missing out on commission each month that was more than my salary. (£25k salary, over £2k per month commission)
How do I go about raising this concern? I believe I should be paid more now and at least change my job title?

Hi All! Looking for some advice. I am a manager a country club but I do everything. I’m in charge of outside events and member events, in charge of the front of house staff, scheduling, ordering and membership sales for the club. I feel I am very underpaid at $45k. I do get commission but it’s very low ($10k give or take for the year). I work 6/7 days a week sometimes 10+ hrs/day. I’ve been researching salaries to be able to negotiate higher pay. I want to ask for $60k-is this reasonable?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
