I wasn’t looking to join another law firm that wasn’t my own. And I have enough non-legal stuff to do as the manager of a smaller commercial real estate private equity firm. So it was odd that someone got in touch with me out of the blue about a law firm called Fisher Broyles. It doesn’t seem like a traditional law firm. But I had never heard of it. Though I found out someone I dealt with in my former big law life is there now. Does anyone have any insight about this organization?

This is an interesting pivot, and it’s smart to approach it with a bit of due diligence. FisherBroyles isn’t your standard law firm; they operate remotely and offer a model that appeals to those seeking more control over their work environment. That could be appealing if you value flexibility. However, since your focus is already split between law and your role in private equity, weigh if that extra shift aligns with your career goals and lifestyle.

All partner model. If you need an associate, you pay them out of your end. Firm takes a percentage and the working attorneys keep/split somewhere in the 75-80% range. Different formulas if you originate and do the work or if you do one or the other. If your practice is at all traditionally leveraged, it’s a bad fit.

It also lost about 100 attorneys when Pierson Ferdinand spun off.

Last night I went over to my friends house (she has 2 kids, 2 and 4 yo). She and her husband were asking me about my pregnancy and planning. And were asking what I’ve prepped to date. I’m only 13w2 days so I think it’s way to early for buying stuff, but I did mention we hired a baby nurse for when the baby comes. My friend completely berated me, short of calling me a bad mom already, saying “what is she going to do all day? Don’t you want to bond with your child?”. I’m so upset by this.

Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?
