I will be submitting my notice soon. The partners in my group don’t come into the office. Since I will have many many conversations to have that day, i kind of want to start on the earlier end. Partners, would it be ok to receive a cold call (i.e. attorney calling you without putting a meeting on your calendar) at like 9:30-10:00am?

Once you tell one, the word will spread. So schedule something with the group leader/partner who hired you as early as you can, and then start calling folks afterwards.

We always know when we get the “can we speak briefly” note etc. It’s fine. No need to hide it.

So if they never come in, will you work there forever? Go into the office. If no appropriate partner is there, make a phone call.

Totally fine to cold call or send an email asking to share news if they don’t answer. As for telling people in person, keep in mind that giving notice will take forever and could mentally drain you (it did for me). I literally had to sit down and decompress for a bit midway through the day because I was talking so much and giving bittersweet news to quite a few people. So don’t worry about getting through everyone in a single day.

4. Don't plan to own a car

What are some good sites to look for apartments or realtors?

Any insight on Brewer (either office, generally curious about the firm). I assume comp after year 1 is discretionary, rather than lock-step, given the size of the firm. Would appreciate happiness, horror stories, of whatever “firm culture” falls between the two. DM me if you don’t want to share publicly.

Junior Associates - How much student loan debt are you and your peers in these days? A few young partners and counsel at my firm were discussing the student loan moratorium and most of us were convinced we could have paid the majority of our loans off with the bonuses associates got these last two years. But we are all old and when we graduated 150k to 200k was about the max student loan debt people graduated with. So educate me. What is the average student loan debt these days?
