I work with someone who books one hour meetings for every meeting that should only take 30 mins tops. It’s a waste of everyone’s time and very unproductive.

It kills me.

Do they make everyone sit in the meeting for the entire hour even after all points are made? I wouldn't mind them booking the meeting for an hour as I'm not being held hostage.

Yes. They don’t stick to the agenda and goes off topic constantly drawing out the meeting…. It often runs over time because of this.

In situations like this, I like to take it upon myself to set the time for the meeting like this: "Can we discuss this in a 30-minute Zoom call on Wednesday? 2:00 pm-2:30 PM would be great." This sets the standard for the meeting

I would love to be able to do that. This person in particular is the lead so they are the only one setting meetings for that project.

That's unfortunate. As the lead, they should be the one preparing agendas, with a clear goal for each meeting and sticking to it. You'll find most of the meetings you're having will go away if only they followed that. I'd talk to your lead and tell them these long meetings are stopping you from delivering. Personally, I block off time in my calendar so that no one can invite me to meetings during that block.

Thank you for the advice! I’ve talked to them before about shortening these meetings but I’ll do it again. I’ll just have to start blocking my calendar like you said.

It’s getting so bad that I will be removing myself from this project if it continues in a few months.

Higher offers at 27-28 with more fixed pay is from contract and hire/fire type companies. Mostly indirect hiring instead of direct employment with the final employer, means higher pay with lower jon security - we get little more pay, companies get the option to let go with ease later!
