If I were to quit this profession entirely and don’t want to do an MBA or anything corporate related, what are my options where my skills can be transferable? Open to law adjacent but just not any law firm or in house.

Compliance, and technically a lot of roles in the corporate world. But as I’m sure you know, once you move into jobs where a JD is not actually required, the market stops pricing you as a lawyer. Salaries there are usually far lower than in house roles, which themselves are already meaningfully lower than biglaw, at least to start.

The brutal truth people don’t like to hear is that the whole “a JD opens a lot of doors” thing is only true up to a point. A JD opens doors within the legal industry and a handful of adjacent roles. Outside of that, it’s not some universally portable credential the way people sometimes assume. Back in the day, you could hop out of a law firm right into an IB role on Wall Street without that much effort. Things are a bit different these days, especially without an MBA. Once you leave the legal market, employers mostly care about your actual functional experience, not the fact that you went to law school. So if you’re trying to pivot out entirely, you probably want to start thinking about the other parts of your background you can lean on (your undergrad major, any pre-law work experience, technical skills, industry exposure, etc) and position yourself around those rather than the JD itself.

Compliance. Sometimes the salary is just as high a in house counsel positions.

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.

When BigLaw attorneys interview students, how soon afterward do they give feedback? Sorry if my questions are a little neurotic... !
