Bowl Leader
Why not both? I’ve successfully placed candidates where I got their foot in the door and their connection put in a supportive recommendation which was highly effective because it wasn’t “their candidate” being pushed on the group.
You’re asking this in the recruiter bowl?
Yes— it’s an honest question. As a general matter, I respect recruiters and think they are well placed to provide transparent input.
Honestly depends on the firm and who those connections are in terms of both your practice area but also their reputation at the firm. Some people have more sway than others. Hard to know. A recruiter can make sure your information is only going over if/when the time is right.
If only one firm is the target, coin flip. If you are looking at multiple firms, talk to a recruiter.
This. Partner connections matter a TON if they're in the group you would be practicing in and they're effectively lobbying to bring in someone they know would do good work for their clients. If the people you know haven't been there long or don't work in your same practice area, I would think going through a recruiter is equally good if not better chances for getting on their radar.
Do both!
