If someone requests ASAP to me I respond acknowledging it’s a priority (for them) and I tell them a ETA of when they’ll get it. That could be tomorrow, next week etc. what is reasonable given the request and priority level (to me).
Then, if the time I provide doesn’t work for them they can say so, find someone else, argue their case for earlier etc.
It does not mean immediately or drop everything. It literally just means as soon as possible.
Bingo- set expectations. I tend to allow myself some grace depending on the scale of the task.
I think an ASAP request means make the task a priority. In other words, stop what you are working and switch gears to the ASAP request. Of course, you can ask your leader for a specific deadline or ask your leader to help you prioritize and delegate your work.
I don't assume. I ask. It's a priority and I'll work on it to the detriment of my other items. But I need a due date. And we need to set a realistic deadline, based on the deliverables needed/requested.

Because listen 😂 I was ready to drop EVERYTHING
Yesterday.
If someone tells me they need something ASAP, I finish the task I’m doing then tell them when k could reasonably get to their ask bc “ASAP” is not a deadline…. 🙃 so I don’t automatically prioritize since the person asking didn’t take the time to think through when they need it.

Yesterday and if there are conflicting priorities, ask for clarity.
