I got a < 3.0 in college, failed like 30 credits and broke 6 figures at 24. We were lied to about the importance of grades

like

I mostly got A's on exams and papers. But I didn't understand the point of going to class in college. It was torture. So I'd get C's because the professors didn't care that I knew the material, they said I had to be physically present. And they docked my grade for missing too many lectures. Make that make sense. I get a 90 on your engineering exam that half the class who did show up failed, but I get a C because.. you think I should have been there and pretended you taught me something.

Being an immigrant, my English teachers constantly made me feel stupid and would make no effort to help me catch up.

I’m now internationally awarded in three languages, including English. Thanks for the chip on my shoulder, you gaggle of dickheads.

Anyone who thinks the top consultancies are full of the world’s smartest people needs to actually work with a consultancy for a day lol

likefunny

I didnt say no smart people work at consultancies, I just said they’re not “full” of them. Which, in my experience (I work with them often and my wife is a consultant at BCG), is true.

There are a couple extremely smart people, especially leadership, and then pretty much everyone else is a salesperson whipping up a $300,000 PDF

Grading scores are indicators of potential success. Hard to get started if low, easy to get started if high.

Once you’re in, the performance and network game begins. And it’s a whole new game.

Just FYI. People with ADHD and Dyslexia have an intensely tough school time with grades.

People with ADHD and Dyslexia are also oddly very high performers. Often with a high IQ.

So grades are 1 indication, but not the only.
There are millionaires who are high school drop outs. On paper that looks terrible. But . . Do they care?

Some of the most brilliant people I've met are neurodivergent.

Many of whom were screened out as all of the top firms have pretty standardized criteria to get in...

I had awesome grades in highschool, but I never really knew how to study. I went to university to study law and it was hell... I got my bachelor's degree in 4 years as it's "expected", but with a really bad GPA (although here it's not calculated that way) and then a master's degree to be a lawyer (that went way better). During those years, I was completely burnout and feeling like I knew nothing and I was stupid. Even now I feel that way sometimes, but I do realize that the system is f up and grades don't determine your success. And I wish I new and believed that at 18.

I keep reading that JDs are valued in compliance but am wondering if a different graduate program is better for my goals. I already plan to obtain the CAMS certification. Thank you!

Thoughts on “special” salary grades. I just found out the VP I was offered is not a grade 12 like most comparable roles (verified). Also not an 11, but an 11A. Slightly higher than an 11, a good bit lower than a 12. All due to the fact that it’s a leap from my current position. Why should that matter…..shouldn’t it pay what it should pay if I am selected, rather that curving down towards my current rate?
