I left teaching and transitioned into instructional design! It’s been super fulfilling—I still get to create learning experiences, but without the endless grading and late nights. Plus, it's remote, so the work-life balance is night and day difference from teaching high school. If you enjoy curriculum design, it might be worth exploring.. there are soo many instructional design roles these days.
Where do you find jobs like that? Are you in a district or company or on your own?
I also work helping families do planning for college funding and retirement.
I left and went into higher education.
With a masters degree you can teach at a technical college.
You could also do college admissions or academic advising at a 2 or 4 year college.
If you don’t have a masters degree start at a technical college and sometimes they have employee reimbursement for furthering your education!
Higher education may be a bit of a pay cut at 1st, but when you figure out the hours you put in as a teacher and the hours in higher education, you may just get more an hour!!!
Good luck!
If I left teaching, I'd be out of this site. Who needs this aggravation if you are in a different field? I mean, I'd still be supportive of public education and all that, but it's stressful to hear how hard people have it.
When I decide it's time to step away from teaching I'm going to look into becoming a virtual assistant. It’s not directly related to education, but the organizational skills I developed as a teacher should make it a smooth transition, and I know I'll love the remote flexibility.
I retired after 27 years in the classroom and I’m not working, but when I did consider leaving, some jobs that I looked into and found interesting were, police dispatcher, interior designer, project manager, and a more laid back job as a dog walker. I just had to many years in teaching so I really couldn’t leave.
