Fired
You ask, I answer.....you can spin it however you want. It all depends on the story you sell.
Fired for sure. If you're let go due to performance issues (low rating) you were fired. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news bro
^yep, there are very few ways to receive it if you voluntarily resign
It's often called 'counseling out'. Companies don't like to fire people unless there is solid cause, usually for very bad things.
@PWC2 prob not. Atleast with D's policy, they don't disclose why they separated you from the firm
@D3 that may or may not be true. Does D call their severance salary continuance?
Yes, and yes it is true. You don't continue to get paid when you are fired. If you do continue to get paid your are being laid off.
Hmm ok
Tough to say these days. If laying off due to financial reasons, I'd say laid off. If due to performance, I'd say fired. The distinction is people have been 'forced ranked' to force attrition (i.e. People that under normal financial circumstances would be ranked a 3 may now be ranked a 4 to set layoff targets). You should know which you fell into. Either you had performance issues and that led to you getting fired, or you were a lower performer that got caught in a layoff.
Severance?
Do they give you the option to resign so you can avoid the 'fired' label?
Probably, but wait and see what the actual reason given is. A lot of times they may still put it under layoff. It can be both.
And either way, you'll be fine
Is this in regard to unemployment payments? You will be fine either way
^correct
^ one note-if you resign usually you do not get unemployment. Laid off or fired you usually get it unless it was for something like theft, drugs etc.
"Performance issues" is also squishy though. If partners can't sell business (and therefore your utilization sucks) that could negatively impact your rating (even if all your reviews are stellar). I'd call it a layoff and figure out the best way to spin it moving forward. Quitting doesn't make any sense financially since you won't get unemployment and might have pay back signing bonuses and the like.
Its what pwc1 said, your story, u can also say u were too good for them
D2 Isn't there a risk of future employers verifying and finding out it was a firing vs a layoff?
