Not according to them...
3rd year sr is normal... you make it sound like your are languishing away in purgatory.
3 years as senior is normal and expected. Sounds like you're quitting because you didn't get your way to be early promoted, which if I were your coach, would make me think it only furthers the case you weren't ready. This is a tough year for promotions.
3rd Year Seniors Club
If you were a campus hire you have 30 years left of your working career. You'll survive being a 3rd year senior. You'll drive yourself (and those around you) miserable if you are constantly dead set on promo. It's a marathon
If you have another job at MGR or 40% pay increase, smart move. If not take a step back and evaluate what you really want to do for the next 40 years. 1 year of impatience can cost you 10 years of progress. Trust a 37 yo Mgr who made that mistake at 27.
2nd year senior vs 3rd year senior doesn't matter anymore it's about the cohort. I was put in sa3 after first year and didn't get it. I feel your pain op
I was promoted "early" and can confirm its been a tough year. Actually wondering if I survived CRT.
OP - it's a bad year for promotions. Esp if you're in FS Advisory.
3rd year senior is completely normal. If others got promoted in your group look at their average duration. Also, like someone said above, you are really going to have a tough time getting hired up. Most firms, like D, will actually hire down. For example, even if you got Manager this year, you would be a senior over there. Think through this and start exploring. You never know. But keep 'staying' as an option until something concrete comes up. Hopefully you'll get a 1 and get paid.
Also if you only move firms to get hired up when you're technically premature for promotion anyways then you're moving to a firm with a lower bar for performance / promotion. Not always the wisest.
A>SA 2 yrs. SA>M 2 yrs
What level you are now ? And how long you being in that level ?
About to be 3rd year Senior. However I did very well...
Which practice ?
If you stay in consulting, can you get hired into a manager role at another firm? I'm sure a decent firm will know you were not promoted this year and pause to bring you in as a manager at their firm. Won't you be starting over without your current network / relationships?
Also, if you were early promoted you'd probably have a really hard first year as a manager. Now you will have an easy third year as a senior while still being well paid and an easier first year as a manager because you'll have that much more experience. This is nothing to quit over. Also, just because you did well doesn't guarantee promotion. The majority of people in this field do well and are naturally overachievers. That's not necessarily something that would distinguish you enough to be promoted early. There has to be a business case amongst other factors. Doesn't sound like there was.
P1 - what's early? 2yrs ?
A for the 2nd year. Not getting promoted. What should i do? Risk a 3rd?
Pwc9- there's no such thing as "risking a 3rd." Being an A for a 3rd year is normal. Unless you are a super low performer there is almost no way you wouldn't make SA after your 3rd year.
