How do people focus in the office? I'm a first year and I've been mostly wfh since I started and I'm super productive at home - my setup is comfortable, I rarely get interrupted, and I feel like I can stay really focused in my home office.

Our SAs started today, so the firm is making us come in more often. My office set up is so awkward, screens are too small, and I'm constantly getting interrupted. Not to mention the extra time it took to get ready and commute. How do people do this?

Welcome. This is why many of us have been so anti-RTO. There’s no trick.

Same thoughts here. At home I have my mouse, keyboard, chair, dual 32 inch monitors, etc. Everything custom to my taste and needs. Going to the office really is not ideal. I’m always in constant contact with my teammates via chat and video. Not sure why everyone needs to go back to office for the few that can’t get with the times and adjust to technology.

It's genuinely so frustrating. They're forcing the summers to work in the office 5-days a week; therefore, they want us to come in more to support them. I was a summer during the pandemic in 2020 and was very supported in the virtual environment. I don't understand why/how they've forgotten how well we adapted.

I almost screwed up an entire deal during closing and tbh half the reason was because I didn’t know how to compose myself in the office

My office is empty on Mondays and Fridays. That helps.

I’ve found it difficult to go back into the office and focus with colleagues talking in the halls and on phones in neighboring offices. My only solution has been to close my door and put in my noise-cancelling headphones, blaring music to muffle the sounds.

like

A7 doors are closed, walls are incredibly thin. So thin that she mine as well be on the phone in my office 🙃

Opposite for me. 2nd year finding the office makes me more productive, but also more tired in the evenings. I still only prefer to go in 2 days max

I think the constant interruptions is exactly why the senior people want everyone back in the office. In their minds that is how work gets done, probably because the more senior you get, the more short your tasks are (hop by the junior office and tell them to do XYZ). The juniors are on a smaller number of more intensive tasks, while the more senior you get the more tasks you are on and the more efficient it becomes to be able to pop in an office and have a 10 minute chat.

Close your door if you have an office. Plug in some earbuds. Stick up a DND sign.

Just landed a full time gig, looking to get some furniture so I’m not working on my parents’ kitchen table during this remote period. Any recommendations for desks and chairs? I’m hoping to find something that’s easy to assemble and break down for when I need to move, and something that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I know everyone has a different kind of setup that works for them. I currently have a laptop, drawing pad, second monitor, and a desk riser.

One key selling point, as they are trying to offer is the opportunity to work one day a week to use for things like training, acquiring certifications or building applications that you are interested in.

This sounds amazing. I don't get that at my current job. So, is this too good to be true? I would like your opinion on this.

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...
