Sorry that your experience hasn't been positive. I love San Diego and don't regret moving here. Will admit that I had a stretch where I didn't have enough friends or social life, but that was mostly due to my not putting in the effort. I've also been extremely fortunate with career and home buying timing. It's likely that I'd have a very different experience if I was starting my career here today

I absolutely love it here. I work at home but have friends I met in my old job. I find the people welcoming and friendly. Great beaches and restaurants. So many things to do.
I really like San Diego, so that is not my experience. I think it could be the place you live. Have you only lived in one place? I like the weather a lot and job market is okay. I would say that its worth the price if you came from the midwest which I did.
I hope your next destination has a better experience!! I’ve been here for 8 years, but moved from the Southeast where it’s totally different lol. I think San Diego has a lot more more job opportunity, culture/diversity, social activities, and just a way better food scene than I had experienced in the south
Love it here. Met some great people. It’s walkable enough. Homelessness in your face is way better than when I lived in SF and LA. Great beer. Great concerts. Higher cost of living but it’s worth it. If you want to give SD another try, maybe try a different neighborhood. I found it really easy to make friends. Have you tried social groups and meet up?
I agree. Try joining a sport, gym, club, or church.
OP - curious where you're moving to and what has attracted you?
As a WFH San Diego transplant of 7 years ago, I've intermittently struggled with many of the same things you mentioned - but have found that other places where they might be diminished have far larger drawbacks that I'm not willing to compromise on.
No, I don't. Everything in SD is incredible. Also a two-year transplant, but from New York. You get what you paid for. This is paradise. My main complaint, as I live in Ocean Beach, is the insane summer crowds, as well as the trash by "tumbleweeds" or transients.
I actually love it here. It doesn't feel like a huge city, despite its size. It's a sprawling city, with centers of this and that scattered throughout. It lacks a central downtown center with a sense of urban bustle. Depending on your tastes, this might be a positive or negative thing.
It kinda grew on me after a while. The weather is the same beautiful day, every day. I'm used to -20 in the winter and 110+ in the summer, so this is like heaven.
It has its ups and downs. The best part is we're generally pretty chill and easy going. Bad part is it takes a while to get comfortable and people are coming and going all the time.
I love it, but I understand it’s not for everyone. It’s a big country, your favorite city is out there! Good luck
I’ve had the same unfortunate experience, and I’m relocating back to DC as soon as possible.
