Tell them your comfort level is closer to $105 and ask if they have room to negotiate. Some companies work within salary bands and don't have room. Some do. A decent recruiter will tell you because they don't want to waste anyone's time.
Thank you! Will bring this up asap.
I make sure the recruiter knows what I’m looking for and agrees to potential accommodation, or it is a bye bye from me. Why waste everyone’s time?
TYSM!!
90k isn’t a real salary. It’s a lowball offer. They actually have $100k+ for the right candidate.
What if they insist that it’s the top of the salary band?
I've come across companies that have management set a certain budget for each position, sometimes high, but the HR dept sometimes low-ball you in the hopes that should you do accept the offer, they will report to their superior that this HR has saved a lot of money for the company by offering a lower rate. I'd say don't budge, if they can't offer other than what you asked for, then don't pursue, else if they have other counter offers like incentives, shared stocks or subsidized electricty and utilties(for remote work) or paid holidays and whatnots.
Always negotiate. There’s always more money for the right person! Only give a range of what you feel comfortable saying yes to, like 100-115k.
What if they say it’s the top of the salary band already?
“there is always more money in the banana stand”
Op, did anything end up happening with this? Was following this convo because I’m in a similar boat
Ah bummer. Thank you for your responses!
