I’ve worked at AT&T as a sales consultant for 6 years and 8 months where we prospect, uncover, and close on leads. I’ve used Salesforce for the past 4 years during my tenure. I’ve done B2B sales where I’ve received awards for it for 2 years consecutively. Loads of troubleshooting, uncovering needs through consultative styled selling, and tech app subscriptions.
I was wondering if I have the necessary skills to transition into a tech sales role. If so, what would be the best role/fit for me?Amazon Salesforce Google @

Congrats! Did this about three years ago myself - accounting advisory to analytics in a t2 strat consulting firm went from 120 to ~ 300k TC this year
I always advise folks to leave accounting and go into data anything. Engineering, science etc
Always felt like this was the next step for the profession since we basically manage data anyway
What specifically do you do now and what are the specific skills that you’re utilizing? Asking because I’ve done some training in automation and analytics but not really seeing where I can apply it

Hey, sorry this got lost in the thread. Right now I am working a lot in AWS. For example, client has data in AWS that they want to use for advanced analytics processing. I work with them to identify what data they need and where it needs to be. We start with identifying what kind of analytics they want done, like forecasted sales. Then we identify what data is needed to do that, then where that data is. Next, I work with the other consultants on my team to identify how that data needs to be transformed before analytics can be run on it. I’ll work with an offshore team of developers who write the code to extract/transform the data and then finally load it into AWS’s processing engine. Then I work with onshore resources to help develop the algorithm that will predict the sales, then back to the offshore devs to implement. Then I put together the powerpoint dec that summarizes what was done and how it works and support my manager in presenting to client management.
I tell this to people all the time. If you don’t love accounting and you’re trying to maximize earnings, go to advisory/consulting. You will be paid way more. Audit and non specialist tax groups can’t come close to the compensation advisory/consulting can give you.

Congrats. Impressive numbers! Can you talk about what you do daily? I’m sure some of would be interested to see if it’s something feasible/better suited to us. Thanks!
Do you have your cpa ?
I've seen that. Is it completely online and isn't under 10k for the whole program?
Did you already have the computer programming pre requisite or did you have to take a class before you applied. Also did you work full time while doing the program?
To gain some clarity, you work in the management consulting arm of a Big 4 now? And you were able to make that transition by leveraging an outside offer and having the necessary data analytics skills?
PS - what cost of living are you in? Looks like MCOL-HCOL based on your historical comp but curious if you moved.
Are you entry level in tech consulting? Or more senior?
Mentor
I’m a consultant, so more entry level
Hmm this is very impressive . What was your first masters in ? Also do you think it’s better to go for a degree or just do certifications?
Mentor
First was masters of accounting.
I’m a huge advocate for certifications. I don’t think the degree was needed, but it gave me a structured way to learn the material.
Thank you so much for sharing the insights. They really inspired me and let me see more options.
My university has information systems and business analytics masters programs and I've been debating taking one of them and getting out of the accounting world. This post is very encouraging. What is your job title, btw?
Mentor
Sorry, missed this. Job title is Consultant in the AI&Data Engineering group at my company.
Did the same just switching firms lol, exact same numbers too haha
And you’re just a consultant at Deloitte???
You’re in the Strategy & Ops practice or something?
I used to be a Sr Consultant in the Controllership Advisory practice and got paid no where near this
