Not uncommon for those of us with dense tissue. Don't stress about it.
Yes I have. Also have dense tissue. All normal practice especially if you have history of any cancer in your family. Consider it a good precautionary exercise.
I have “dense breasts” and now get an ultrasound at the same time. My mom has the same thing. I’ve asked my gyno and friends and it’s pretty common. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be diligent, but no need to worry!
I’m exactly the same. Dense breast and additional imaging very common for me. Always ultimately checked out fine. 🤞
Yep - like others have said, very common if you have dense tissue. It’s comforting that they want to double check.
Yes it’s pretty common. In addition to the annual mammogram I also have ultrasounds. Make sure to get the script written for both going forward so they can be scheduled the same day.
Don’t stress about it. Get the additional imaging done to be sure.
Yes - and I had to do an MRI, too. It’s common with dense tissue.
Yes!! I have dense breast tissue and had 6 month check ups since I was 32 (mammograms, ultrasound, MRI). I am now 37 and I was just diagnosed a few weeks ago with early stage breast cancer and had a lumpectomy. I can't advocate enough about early detection and doing as much screening as you can!! Please continue your follow ups. Early treatment is better than the alternative.
For what it’s worth, I’ve had dense breast tissue for years - when I had to get my MRI a few years ago, the specialist said he “wouldn’t be surprised if it was breast cancer” (it wasn’t - it was just dense breast tissue). I had a mammogram last month and I no longer have dense tissue - thanks menopause?
Literally got this same call this morning. Thanks for the post - I've had a pit in my stomach all morning.
I’ve been called back a couple of times because of dense tissue, too. It’s scary at first, but those follow-up images just help them get a clearer picture. You’re doing all the right things by staying on top of it.
All the time - ask your ob-gyn if they can start to request an ultrasound at the same time due to dense breast tissue - united health care started allowing this last year and it really eases the anxiety
Many times, OP for the same reason (dense tissue). Since everyone’s situation is different I’m reluctant to offer any reassurance other than this protocol is totally normal. But if they were to detect an issue, try to adopt the mindset that the earlier the better. Sending positive vibes your way.
Came here to say that. It's the standard of care (thankfully) in most healthcare orgs. When it's time for mine (41) they put the orders in together so it is one after the other and feels like one appointment. My sister (48) has been doing the same thing since she was 40.
Many times. And it was always fine until one time it was not. I ended up having cancer. But it was tiny because it was caught by a mammogram, I did surgery, chemo, radiation, and now I am cancer free. Be glad there are mammograms and get the second screening
Yes, same here - what they are really saying is they can’t see properly using the mammogram alone but why they don’t explain it like that I’m not sure! Makes it feel scarier to hear. Have been there. But for those of us who have dense breast tissue, they just need to do extra testing using different machines to make sure there IS nothing to see.
Very common - you’re probably just fine
(Virtual hug)🫂
On the flip side, my breast cancer was missed because it was occult (did not show up on my mammogram) due to dense breast tissue. Be very thankful that your care organization is proactively checking further - that’s a great sign of their thorough care processes! After treatment, I ended up always having breast MRIs for about five years afterwards so we were entirely confident in no tumors, and then my dense breasts became a lot less dense as I got older! 😁
I got called back since mine are dense. Then I got called back again after my breast reduction. I would tell you not to worry but understand your fear. It is probably nothing, but our minds…. Sending hugs your way.
I understand how you feel and have had to follow up several times due to dense tissue. Typically I have to get second scan and ultrasound. I admit a little anxious each time but common and no concerns to date. It does help monitor cysts, etc. for future scans. Stay positive. I am always grateful they are staying alert and looking out for my best interest.
it s common thing. also depends on a day of a cycle. the best days to do mammogram is 3-5th of a cycle if i remember well, but ask a doctor.
dense tissue quite common
Yes, very common. I’ve had a second mammo twice as well as an ultrasound. Scary, but in my case all was okay. I also notice, after having to much caffeine, that my breasts are sore, like before a period. So I had to cut back on coffee :( Good luck!!
