Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

The simple answer is that the job market is lousy. People have referred to what's going on as a white collar recession, and that seems about right. The economic numbers are generally positive, but in some sectors people are just fearful of hiring. I'm hoping things will pick up in the new year, but with all the chaos that's being promised, who knows if that will happen.
I completely understand where you coming from because this is my exact situation specially with the scams and OTE jobs it’s everywhere, but you know what we do best as many touches as many opportunity we might generate + persistent and determination and you will get it , all the best to you from t
OP this is a really challenging job market to be looking for a job in. I have several friends who have been looking for over six months and are in the same boat as you. I definitely think that sometimes having a referral can help you get your foot in the door.
Yes, this happens to me all the time. I do think these rejections are computer based. I applied for a job last Sunday at 9 pm and got a rejection email before 8 am on that Monday. It was very obvious that no one even saw my resume. It’s sad, that so many jobs are posted, but it’s not really possible to even get an interview unless you have a connection or know someone. And yes, I was 100% qualified for the job. It was the same exact job as I’m doing now.
