I’m a senior manager. Have a habit of keeping an eye on emails while out of office. If you see a client email, do you respond or not?

I think at a point it’s less about you and more about your team. What kind of message does it send to your subordinates if you’re answering emails when out of office? With proper delegation there should be very few things that require a response while out of office.

likefunny

You should have an automatic reply that you are out of office for xxx when you will return and who they should reach out to if they need a response before then. You clients takeva atio s, too. If you have something going on that you expect may need a time sensitive response on you will be able to supply, you should reach out to that person prior to your vacay and tell them how to reach you.

To respond to non-urgent items send three messages.
1. You have a very inflated view of your importance
2. You don't set or value boundaries for time off... which means you have that e pe tation for your team memvers.
3. You don't know hiw to relax and take time off so youcan recharge.

Next time, don't check them. If it's mission critical someone will text or call you.

I have a robust delegation plan for when I'm OOO and have it documented in my OOO message.

My view point is that if things fall apart when I'm out, I've failed at setting up an appropriate team.

I don’t reply to work emails. I plan pto coverage and follow pto hygiene.

But I am guilty of checking emails as a habit. I delete all nonsense emails, just “thanks” or simple stuff that’s not important or relevant. This keeps inbox easy to manage when I am back. I know what remains I should check starting from top, because many bottom ones may already have been resolved.

Depends if urgent. If not, no chance

I don’t know Accenture much. But if you are in a sales role or aspiring to be in a sales role (partner or equivalent ), I haven’t seen many partners not responding to emails from clients.

With that said, you can prioritize what you respond to. If it truly requires your attention straightaway or it can wait. If it can wait, your response can wait.

I check email and respond if someone needs something. Usually takes 5 minutes before bed.

I have no expectation that anyone else does this

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

Is it irrational for me to get an “ick” for this?

I went on a “date” recently. I paid for the tab as they were going to the bathroom. As we were leaving they said “thanks for lunch” — I was hoping they’d at least ask to Venmo me half as a kind gesture. Following lunch we grabbed dessert. I was hoping they’d offer to cover dessert since I covered lunch but it didn’t happen.

I am fine w/ paying but I was hoping the gesture would at least be presented… am I crazy?

What are firm’s known billable requirements? Is there a ramp up period?

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.

like

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!

I was offered a contractor role (~20 hours a week) at 90/hour. This is extremely attractive because it’ll double my income (and the tax deductions from 1099 are solid). With that being said, I also want to see what kind of conflicts I can see given that I’m at a B4 firm.

I get the whole “you can’t have a second job” thing and don’t care but I’m actually worried about causing major conflict of interest.

Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!

A nice comfortable office chair.

https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest

I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

AMA.

Ignore and pray it away or get it fixed lol?
