Random question: anyone have any water damage horror stories? Washing machine on the 3rd floor didn’t drain and overflowed for 10 mins - slight damage to the third floor floors, second floor ceiling and floors. It does not look that bad but who knows with water issues. This is going to be rental soon. I’m being quoted 20k+ to dry and fix it which seems excessive even though home insurance will cover it. Ignore and pray it away or get it fixed lol?

The real long term problem is mold. If you’re able to open up the ceiling and get a dehumidifier going for a week or so it’ll dry it out thoroughly. Then patch the drywall for like $1k and then live with the floor damage?

like

If you’re going to use the home insurance then just get them to cover and replace as much as you can. You have to pay your deductible anyways so might as well get the most value out of the claim.

Dry and fix it for sure. We had water damage that we didn’t know about cause major structural damages and we were in a hotel for over 6 months. Water is wild.

like

Woah! That’s crazy! Ok, I feel better about putting in this claim and moving to my in-laws for a week.

I was president of a condo board. We had water get through the clapboards and disintegrate the OSB walls underneath including some black mold. Tore off all the siding. Put up new plywood and then vinyl siding. $1M+ split across 126 units. Getting a majority of the unit owners to vote for the assessment was no small feat. The elderly resident subset thought I was the big bad wolf. Everyone else knew we needed to do the work to improve property values and sustainability of the buildings.

I was in a shared apartment and we had to deal with similar situation such as water dripping from first floor into second floor for 6 months (no clue) until it came to our realization that opening on top of the bath tub to remove excessive water was leaking; whenever ppl on top floor decided to use epsum salt & have some quality time in bath tub, we had water flowing through all of our floor for 2-3 days and it did pretty good damage to the ceiling so I would recommend you to get this fixed before you rent it out - I wouldn’t wish that to my enemy as you will haunted by the thought of walking through the waste water which could be coming from any part of their body 🤢

Has anyone been successful in negotiating the schedule on a global pregnancy bill? My provider won't bill by visit and split the global cost into four payments all due by the 28th week. I don't understand how that's legal since it is so off the calendar of services and crosses calendar years (and insurance coverage), where most costs are incurred at the end of pregnancy with increased visit frequency and delivery.

However, anything related to IVF or medical procedures has to go through insurance (also limited to $50k lifetime benefit). Continued…

My friend just got out of a relationship and hooked up with his ex's best friend a week later. They're now dating and seeing each other everyday.
I couldn't help but feel like this wasn't an appropriate thing to do for both parties. He also revealed that he cheated on his past exes.

I'm naturally feeling a bit weary of his character and questioning whether this is a friend I want to keep close in my life. Perhaps I'm being too judgmental?
