That may or may not be indicative of a problem. Some organizations are very set in their ways and people get promoted more for "culture fit" than competence, and that can favor people in a certain mold, which can include gender. It's hard to know if that's really the case, but it's good to keep in mind. If you're invited for an interview you might want to ask questions that would provide some insight into that.

What kind of questions can you ask that identify if it’s an issue with the culture?
Rising Star
Short answer, it can be a red flag, but it’s not an automatic one. An all male leadership team usually means one of two things either there’s a pipeline issue they haven’t bothered to fix, or there’s a culture that hasn’t made space for women to move up. What matters is how they responded to you. Did they talk about growth, mentorship, and decision making, or did it feel dismissive or vague. I’d trust the vibe you got in the room more than the optics alone.

The vibe seemed fine but I haven’t seen that sort of male oriented place in a while so it caught me off guard. My current place is very diverse and I respect that a lot. I just wasn’t sure what to make of it.

No necessarily, they could be between cycles of hiring and it just so happens to be men? Or is it the type of company that maybe attracts more men? You might need to find out more before drawing conclusions.
Rising Star
Yeah hard to say. I heard they’re trying to fix the problem of too many men in management but who knows…
Rising Star
Personally I wouldn't say so but obviously would need a deeper look to really understand. Be proud to be where you are and maybe inspire other women to follow in your footsteps
Rising Star
It’s true! I’m proud I got to this stage. Maybe I’ll get the job because they want to add more women to managerial positions!
Pro
Not necessarily. You’d want to give them the benefit of the doubt, that’s about all you can do. I guess you just have to ask yourself if that’s an environment that you’d like to work in you still have to make assumptions to come to that determination, but if that’s important to you, then that’s what you’ll have to do.
Rising Star
I wasn’t bothered by it per se, it was just something I hadn’t encountered before and thought odd in this day and age. Maybe it just ended up that way but they weren’t trying to make it that way.
