Not sure if anyone else can relate to this but this is my story as a GenXer:
When I was in my early twenties, all of my bosses/managers were 15 to 25 years old older than me.
Now that I am in my mid 50’s, all of my manners and bosses are 15 to 25 younger than me.
I don’t know how or why my opportunity to manager others passed by me.
I have found that career pacing changes, but it's not something that's ever really been in my control. It's a matter of coping with whatever is happening in my job at a particular time. I'd prefer slow and steady progression, if given the choice, but at times I've had to scramble and move fast to keep up with whatever was going on. Somehow it all works out, I suppose.

I agree! You can only take it on day at a time.
The older I get, the less I care about career progression and the more I prioritize work life balance. I'm at the point where I would be fine not getting another promotion before I retire. I make enough to live comfortably while also having a fairly low-stress job.
