I let myself have a slow day. I turn off my alarm on my day off and just let my body sleep until it decides it's rested enough. Make pancakes or something I don't usually treat myself to. Any productivity is done at an easy pace, no rushing. I often make a grocery list, get gas, go to the store, put things away, and sometimes that's it for the day. And/or I'll do a load of laundry and set a timer to remind myself when to transfer to the dryer, and again to take out and fold. While the machines are running, I'll sit down and read or watch TV, have lunch, but no doom scrolling or news for the day. If you have to go online, stick to things you know will make you smile, like funny dog and cat videos. Remember: unless your home is going to be photographed for a magazine tomorrow, there's no need to clean it top to bottom today, We're humans not machines, so give yourself some grace and live slowly for a day.
This is great advice. When things get heavy I also tend to slow down. Very grounding.
Time off. 😊
Give the Mr.a healthy shag.
Brilliant idea!
I literally stand in place, breathe, and say out loud, "Nope. Work is done today." And if it's a weekend, same thing, out loud, "There's nothing you can do about it until Monday so just leave it for now." I think the physical actions of stopping and breathing ground me. And saying it out loud, well, I suppose I respect my own authority lol. Helps to say it in the mirror, too. Show yourself who's boss.
Very insightful. Thanks for sharing this.
Where did you learn or hear about this technique?
I go for a run, or watch a favorite show, or go out dancing, or love up on my spouse. We have a saying in my house, "stupid work" that lets off steam and reminds us what's really important (not stupid work, that's for sure.)
