I’m curious if the honeymoon phase of unlimited AI usage is ending. I know people at massive corporations who are being told to go full speed ahead, while others at smaller shops are being told to limit which models they use to save on costs. I’m getting mixed signals at my job. My lead wants us to use it for everything, but also reminds us to watch the budget. What’s the vibe at your workplace right now? Is your company starting to pull back on AI spend?

"pulling back" was inevitable. Ask any software engineer why optimization matters if you can just buy a bigger box.

Something as simple as optimizing token usage is hardly a priority in most places. Even when it has a direct financial impact.

Then again most businesses have no clue how to use AI properly, so they don't even understand why you'd want to optimize it until they start seeing the quotas exploding.

My husband and I have saved up about $80K and it’s just sitting in our bank account. We thought we were going to buy a townhome but with the crazy inflated prices we decided not to since we like where we live currently (location could not be better and rent is crazy cheap at only $700 a month). How should we invest our money in the meantime while we save up for a house?

I almost got out of Pharma... A CD from a Consumer agency doing solid work reached out, and I was so excited thinking I could finally do the kind of work I love. Then they told me they will fill the position with a current employee. I played it cool, but I can’t deny I felt frustrated. I don’t wanna do healthcare, but it seems like it’s the only thing available in NYC nowadays. I also don’t have many connections in this city. So, IF you need an ACD/Art (full-time or FL-to-perm), let’s chat! 🙌🏻

I have been working in SEA region last 4 years. I feel burned out. I have 10yoe, I have try to move to other country but I pretty much suck in LeetCode. I want to take some time off to unwind, finish some personal business, and really prepare for interviews. I would like to hear from you. Should I quit to my current manager(5th so far) or wait after mid year performance review, when a new boss will take over my team? I'm thinking on giving them 2 months notice period. By contract is 1.

Thanks

I just got a job offer for an Entry Level Software Engineer at Boeing in Saint Louis. The salary is $82,000 with an $8,000 sign on bonus. I was hoping for an offer closer to 90k base and I don’t care too much for a sign on bonus. However, this is a lot more than what I’m making now, and would be my first SWE job. Should I counter? If so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks!

So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Should I specialize in Blockchain or AI? I’m a freshman in a CS degree and I can’t decide. My main argument to choose blockchain is the easy entry with little experience and high salary, I plan on growing my skills during the bear market and get a job once the market recovers. Regarding AI, I find this field fascinating but I feel like it requires a lot of experience, degrees and diplomas.

I'm a SWE from Italy. Love my country but salary and taxes here are outrageous. Got 2yrs experience in fullstack and data science, 2masters, a peer reviewed paper and outperform all my peers for 24k€ a year.
I'm thinkin about landing a remote SWE job (leetcoding and building a portfolio this summer).
Have you got some advice? Is it possible to work for US remotely without visa? What other countries pay well? Is it possible to land a 100k$+ with this kind of experience and working from Italy?
