Are there seniors at your client-side job? If not, then that’s a good explanation for future employers. As an alternative to bumping up your title to senior, maybe write the title as “Brand Copywriter” or “Creative Copywriter”. That might make people think it’s a quirk of how the company refer to you rather than just “this person is mid level”. Or you could just lie lol
I would have my profile headline (the thing below your profile pic) say senior copywriter, then make my title for my current role just “writer” or “copywriter.” If your latest agency experience was a senior, I don’t think that’ll set you back. As long as your work hasn’t taken a nosedive you should be fine. People understand that client side titles are inconsistent.
I'd bump up the title on your LI profile. Especially since you're being paid like a senior and if you're doing senior level work in your current role. In that case, I don't see it as unethical.
I’m kind of in the same boat. I’m in-house as a “copywriter” because we don’t have a senior copywriter title. I have the job listed as “copywriter,” but debating whether or not to change it.
