I’m double-dip-curious, but worried about scheduling conflicts. Are there types of freelance writing jobs that don’t involve many meetings? Could be outside of ad agencies.

There are any number of ways to fit it all in your "busy" schedule of Drs, dentists, physical therapists, car repair, apartment viewing, childcare, etc. Ain't nothing to it but to do it.

Yep

I block my calendar with ‘busy’ events on both job calendars so it makes scheduling a little easier. But as everyone else has said, you just do it and make it work.

There are lots of jobs that don’t require tons of meetings. My strategy though is to look for places that will let me work at night. Ill do a kick off or check ins during the day but I’m honest about working at night. Keeps my stress levels down when everyone knows what the deal is. Sometimes these are smaller agencies (I might for instance, be asked to generate a bunch of taglines. They don’t care when it happens really so I do them at night and they get them first thing in the morning instead of EOD). I also have clients who own businesses that I do brand work for, and that I do on my own time.

X2 the best “other gigs” I’ve had were straight copywriting ones.

CD for an agency and then just be a writer for another spot. They just care that the writing got done.

You make it work. Especially if you’re working with a partner, they can cover what you can’t.

Make it work. It’s not as bad as you think, honestly. I’ve done brief stints of triple dibble, those got a little much. No time for a breather. But doubling is doable.

Heellll naw!

Pro-tip I synch both calendars to my iCal and each agency is a different color that way I can see where to block a “busy” block on either. No one can see meeting details just that you aren’t available. On the rare occasion someone ignores my calendar my partner and I divide in conquer or if I’m flying solo I pick the lesser meeting and ask the PM to move it or fake a personal conflict.

It’s totally doable and as soon as those checks start coming in you’ll wonder why you haven’t done this for the last two years of remote work.

HELP: what’s going rate freelance/day rate for mid-level copywriter in CHICAGO? Not my market but have a potential offer that’d be a big break for me

I’ve been dabbling with the idea of getting into copywriting as something to soon the side but I have no experience doing it. What steps should I take (books to read, gigs to start with or pursue, etc) if I want to go from $0 and next to ) experience to $40k or so a year?

Right now I’m currently unemployed and taking a break from my fine art stuff to try to get back into tech sales, but I was looking to expand my skill set and also generate extra money at the same time.

Friendly reminder folks- don’t work for Havas Health and You. They cut the freelancers hourly rates, again and made it so there’s no OT. The resource manager at HOV said if I couldn’t swing $80 an hour as an HCP copywriter, she’d have to find someone else. Good luck 👍🏻
