Honestly, given the current state of the industry, I’d wait until the new year to start making those introductions. Many agencies are just starting to recover from the hit of COVID. Hiring for next May/June is the last thing on any recruiters mind right now. Thanks to COVID, most of us don’t know what our hiring plan looks like in a month, let alone that far in advance. A quick hello doesn’t hurt, but if you want much of a response or real consideration, I’d wait until you get closer to graduation. Hopefully by then we’re all back to full speed!
This and also that a lot of recruiters have been furloughed.
When has gushing got you what you wanted? Yes, actually list examples..
Don’t be false. Recruiters are smart people and can smell insincerity a mile away. You can do a quick search online and find lots of examples on how to introduce yourself.
Try reaching out to creative teams and agencies you admire and ask for advice or discuss creative you like. Start a conversation rather than ask for a job first.
Good luck with your senior year.

Just be you. You don't need to gush about anything, reach out to connect and give them a brief intro about yourself. Make this productive for yourself, don't just "connect" and end it. Ask if you can talk to them over the phone/video call, ask them questions, advice, things that can help you with your job hunt.
I wouldn't expect anything back like an internship up front, just be humble and work on getting to know people.

SM, I know where you're coming from. OP should talk to both recruiters and professionals in their desired field. I don't think it's really one or the other. Talking to recruiters can help shed light to hiring processes.
